Netcat

A simple UNIX utility, which reads and writes data across network connections using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) or User Datagram Protocol (UDP). It is designed to be a reliable back‐end tool that can be used directly or is easily driven by other programs and scripts.

At the same time, it is a feature‐rich network debugging and exploration tool, because it can create almost any kind of connection needed and has several interesting built‐in capabilities. Netcat is now part of the Red Hat Power Tools collection and comes standard on SuSE Linux, Debian Linux, NetBSD and OpenBSD distributions.
