Virtuální privátní síť
Počítačová síť, v níž některými spojeními jsou virtuální okruhy v rámci větších sítí jako je např. Internet namísto přímých spojení fyzickými kabely.
Koncové body virtuální sítě pomyslně procházejí rozsáhlejšími sítěmi. Zatímco běžnou aplikaci tvoří zabezpečené komunikace po veřejném Internetu, VPN může nebo nemusí mít silné bezpečnostní prvky, jako např. autentizaci nebo zakódování obsahu.

The endpoints of the virtual network are deliberately passing through larger networks. While a common application is secure communication over the public Internet, VPN may or may not have strong security features such as authentication or encoding of content.
