Pro projekty vývoje softwaru jsou členové týmu většinou mix softwarových inženýrů, architektů, programátorů, analytiků, expertů QA, testery, návrhářů UI atd. Toto se často nazývá "projektové týmy s různými funkcemi". Agilní praktiky také povzbuzují členy týmu s různými funkcemi.
Během sprintu se tým samozorganizuje, aby splnil cíle sprintů. Tým má autonomii zvolit si, jak nejlépe splnit cíle, a je za ně zodpovědný. ScrumMaster působí jako opatrovník, aby zajistil, že tým bude izolován od vlastníka produktu.
